Shoprite Group still has bursaries in 7 fields available

  • Shoprite Group still has a number of bursaries available across seven fields.
  • The bursary covers tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, and even groceries.
  • Applications close on 30th September 2023.

As the cost of living climbs higher and higher folks have to cut costs and unfortunately that often means having to make tough decisions and sacrifices.

Thankfully when it comes to education there are options available for students who need a bit of help in to paying for their studies, such as bursaries.

On that, Shoprite Group has said that it still has bursaries available in seven fields for high-performing students for the 2023 and 2024 academic years. Applications are currently open, but close on 30th September so it’s best to apply soon.

The bursaries currently available are:

Applicants need to be under 27 years old and be registered for either a post-graduate or undergraduate course at an accredited university.

Over the course of the last financial year, Shoprite Group spent R16 million funding the studies of 206 students. The retailer’s bursary programme covers tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, a grocery allowance and, perhaps most importantly, a job after graduation.

“What I appreciate most about the Shoprite Group’s bursary programme is the support that they give you as a new graduate,” says Amelia Veldschoen (pictured above) who works at Shoprite Group’s Centurion Distribution Centre. The 23 year-old was offered a bursary from the retailer while she was studying her BCom Supply Chain Management at the University of Pretoria.

“I was given a chance to explore different parts of the business – from the DC to stores. After five months of training, I was appointed as Store Replenisher – a position that has made me realise the impact of supply chain efficiency. We may be a grocery retailer, but our core purpose is to put food on South Africa’s tables. Replenishers play an important role in ensuring that the customer has access to what they need. I’m proud to be part of a team that makes such an impact on people’s lives every single day,” said Veldschoen.

As mentioned, bursary applications close on 30th September so visit the links above and submit yours as soon as possible.
