TCL is dipping its toe into the local white goods market

  • TCL will be bringing a number of washing machines and tumble dryers to the local market.
  • The brand’s products look well-priced for the market and feature a distinctly premium look.
  • TCL is also bringing even more TVs to the local market following increased interest in the brand locally.

While it may be best known for its TVs and smartphones, TCL has a range of white goods it manufactures including washing machines and tumble dryers.

At a launch event in Johannesburg on Thursday evening, TCL announced it was entering the local white goods market with its washing machine and dryers.

Among these appliances is the P611FLS front loading washing machine which will carry a price of R4 999 and the C210WDG 10kg washer/dryer combo for R9 999.

The appliances have a number of great features such as direct drive inverter motors, sterilisation and more. You can even throw items into the C210WDG while it’s running without having to restart the cycle.

Whether TCL can make a splash in the local market remains to be seen but the products look great and appear to be well priced in comparison with other brands on the market.

New TVs aplenty

While the appliances are new, TCL isn’t abandoning the TV market, in fact it’s actually bringing even more products to South Africa later this year. The brand said during the launch event that the local market had responded incredibly well to its TVs and that it was going to be bringing even more models into the country this year.

The marquee product is the new C845. This Quantum Dot Mini LED display features 720 dimming zones, a refresh rate that goes up to 240Hz and a 2 000nits brightness rating. The picture quality of this TV is superb with fantastic contrast, deep blacks and stunning colour accuracy helped along by TCL’s own AiPQ 3 processor. The 65-inch iteration of this TV starts at R22 999.

For those with expensive taste, the C755 has been upgraded and the massive 98inch iteration returns. Sporting a 144Hz refresh rate, 500+ local dimming zones and the same AiPQ 3 processor we mentioned earlier. Pricing for the 98inch C755 is set at R79 999 which is a bit pricey in our opinion. The C755 series will arrive in SA toward the end of the year.

The trouble with a nearly 100inch TV is also that it’s likely too big for most homes and unless you sit at the optimal viewing distance (3.3m away) you’re not going to get more than you would out of a smaller display.

TCL will also be bringing the C745 to SA in 55 and 65 inch iterations while the C645 will arrive in 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inch varieties.

“We believe that technology should be accessible to all, and our new range of televisions exemplifies this commitment. By bridging the price gap between QLED and 4K TVs, we are making cutting-edge QLED technology more attainable for everyday consumers,” Mike Chen, General Manager TCL South Africa said in a statement.

“This empowers our customers to experience the stunning visual brilliance of QLED without compromise, enhancing their home entertainment in ways previously thought impossible. As TCL Electronics continues to evolve and innovate, we are excited to reveal that we will be expanding on our established air-conditioning business and launching into the home appliance space very soon. Our goal is to create a seamless and integrated ecosystem that empowers our customers to elevate their daily routines, making their homes smarter, more efficient, and more comfortable than ever before,” the GM added.

The TCL C645, C745 and C845 TVs will be available through HiFi Corp, Incredible, Takealot and Pick n Pay.
