WeBuyCars and RTMC partner on solution for online vehicle registration

  • WeBuyCars is collaborating with the The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) for an online solution to streamline vehicle registration and change of ownership.
  • It will allow drivers to transact directly with Natis, the national traffic information system, without the need for physical documents.
  • WeBuyCars is also the first entity to engage in such a collaboration with the RTMC.

Doing any kind of admin regarding your motor vehicle in South Africa can be a soul killing experience, especially if you head to a local licensing department. Hoping to assist weary drivers is WeBuyCars (WBC), which has announced a collaborative project with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC). The pair have partnered on an online solution to tackle online vehicle registration and change of ownership.

WeBuyCars is the first private entity to engage in such a collaboration, the RTMC confirms.

“The initiative is designed to create a seamless, convenient, and efficient method for motor vehicle dealers and financial institutions to transact directly online with Natis without the physical handling of documents and visits to registering authorities,” explains the RTMC in a release sent to Hypertext.

“The initiative is the latest in several technological improvements that have been introduced on the Natis system/platform to improve service delivery to make it easy for stakeholders to transact,” it adds.

Previously the online vehicle purchasing platform used the services of organisations to register and change ownership of vehicles. This process required the filling in of large amounts of forms and taking them to queue at licensing authorities, with the process being both costly and opened up the opportunity for corruption, both WBC and RTMC highlight.

The newly developed interface allows vehicle dealers and financial institutions to conduct online vehicle registration and change of ownership transactions via Natis. Both entities say the system was tested over a couple of months and is now operational.

“WBC is delighted to be partnering with RTMC in this initiative and we look forward to providing our customers with a more streamlined and effective method of transacting. WeBuyCars is built on a technology platform and given the RTMC is working on more enhancements, we are always ready to provide assistance where we can,” enthuses Faan van der Walt, CEO of WBC.

Speaking anecdotally, and having used RTMC in recent months, we’re all for more systems and processes aided by the entity, so this one via WBC is duly welcome.
