• HMD Global has announced the local availability and pricing for the Nokia G42 5G.
• The device will support dual SIM functionality, as well as feature 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage.
• The smartphone is available in South Africa through selected MTN retailers.

HMD Global has launched its latest 5G-supporting smartphone in South Africa in the form of the Nokia G42 5G. The device was announced globally in June this year, and had now made it to our shores.

The Nokia G42 5G has a few notable elements to it, such as the fact that it is one of the company’s new repairable smartphones, with parts purchased via iFixit.

These include its 6.56″ HD+ display, 5 000mAh battery that offers up to three days of battery life, its rear cover that’s made from 65 percent recycled materials, as well as its USB Type-C charging port.

We have reached out to HMD Global for a bit more clarity as to whether this repairability will be supported in SA, and will revert with feedback.

In the interim, recommended pricing for the Nokia G42 5G is at R4 999, with HMD Global noting that the new smartphone is available via selected MTN retailers across the country.

Other notable elements on the phone include a 50MP primary camera on the rear, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G processor to deliver the aforementioned 5G support. Added to this is 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage, with Android 13 running out of the box, three years of monthly security updates, and two years of OS upgrades slated for the device.
