- Honor has previewed its upcoming devices ahead of IFA 2023, including a new concept foldable called the V Purse.
- The Chinese phone maker also detailed a wider global release of its latest foldable – the Magic V2.
- The Honor 90 and 90 Lite have officially gone on sale in South Africa too.
Like a handful of consumer technology companies, Honor has held an event in the lead up to IFA 2023. For said event the company focused on its foldable segment of phones, revealing a new concept in the form of the V Purse, as well as detailing its current flagship foldable – the Magic V2.
The latter device was a Chinese exclusive when it was first announced earlier in the year, but now Honor is readying to release it to other select markets.
We are yet to get an official global release date, nor a local one for now, but the Magic V2 will be the first foldable device that Honor plans to bring to South Africa. This as the company’s president for MEA, Daniel Wang, confirmed that the Magic V2 is indeed earmarked for SA.
The specifications of the Magic V2 are as follows:

Shifting to the V Purse, it remains a concept for now, although its implementation for a fully-fledged product seems fairly straightforward.
“The HONOR V Purse is less than 9mm when folded, which is even thinner than some of the top bar phones in the market, making it more portable than ever. It seamlessly transforms the foldable smartphone into the ultimate phy-gital fashion statement, thanks to a series of customizable always-on displays (AODs) that mimic a handbag design, including design elements such as chains, feathers and tassels that react and sway with the smartphone as it moves,” the company notes of its design.
“The concept phone is also compatible with a choice of interchangeable straps and chains, which clip onto the hinge to allow the smartphone to be worn effortlessly over one’s shoulder like an ordinary purse or handbag, enabling it to become the new ‘it’ bag of the future,” it adds.
The last Honor-releated announcement worth mentioning today is the local availability of the Honor 90 and 90 Lite, which go on sale for R14 999 and R7 999 respectively. We recently reviewed the Honor 90 5G, which you can check out here.
