• Checkers has confirmed that it will be the exclusive South African retailer to stock the PRIME Strawberry Watermelon flavour.

Writing about a sports hydration drink is not something we normally do, but when it comes to PRIME, the fervour and hype surrounding it warrants attention. Earlier this year, Checkers was the first retailer to bring the Logan Paul and KSI-backed drink to South Africa, and now it is set to stock an exclusive flavour locally in the form of Strawberry Watermelon.

Strawberry Watermelon joins four other flavours that launched in April – Ice Pop, Blue Raspberry, Lemon Lime, and Tropical Punch.

The new locally available will be ready to purchase form Checkers from 28th September onwards, and is distinguished by a pink colourway, as seen in the header image above.

“PRIME Hydration is an ideal thirst quencher for consumers who wish to rehydrate, refuel and replenish their energy levels, with zero added sugar or caffeine. Each 500ml bottle of the Strawberry Watermelon variant contains around 25 calories and is made up of 10% coconut water, with antioxidants, electrolytes, vitamins B and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs),” adds Checkers of the sports hydration drink.

At the time of writing, it is unclear how much the Strawberry Watermelon will cost, but the aforementioned four flavours are still selling for R39.99 on Checkers Sixty60, which is the price they launched at, so hopefully the retailer keeps it at the same price point, despite it being exclusive to its stores alone.

While we’ll need to taste the new flavour in comparison to the ones currently available, perhaps of more interest is whether the frenzy around this sports hydration drink will spin up again now that a new flavour is set to hit shelves.
