Beating loadshedding is cheaper – and easier – than you think

If you live in South Africa and do not have a permanent solution to the persistent problem of loadshedding, we do not blame you. Loadshedding is a complicated issue and, while solutions for home and work exist, they too are complicated… not to mention pricey.

Due to advertising from some manufacturers and service providers, the prevailing thought is that you have two options for solving loadshedding yourself – a generator, or a UPS.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both share costs and complexity. UPSs require proper electrical integration into your existing power structure, along with expensive inverters, batteries and more. Generators are simpler to get connected and going, but require constant expensive fuel, not to mention the noise, fumes and maintenance.

So what option is left? EcoFlow believes that the solution is the Portable Power Station – a powerful but still mobile central unit that can provide electricity in huge amounts wherever you need it.

Take the DELTA 2 Portable Power Station for example. It can be yours with expandable battery options of 1024Wh, 2048Wh or 3040Wh. You can then simply plug in whatever appliance or electronics you want to make use of that power and, unlike some other power options that can only handle small devices, the DELTA 2 comes with full size South African wall plugs for anything you can throw at it. Fridges, TVs, fans, lights, even coffee makers and electric grills are all catered for.

And don’t think your personal devices are left out either. Phones, tablets and notebooks can be powered up many times on the single, large charge of the DELTA 2. You can even make use of the built-in Fast Charge USB ports on the Portable Power Station to get those devices going as soon as possible.

Once the DELTA 2 itself is depleted, don’t sweat as it too only needs a minimal amount of time at the wall. The patented X-Stream charging technology can get the DELTA from a zero percent charge all the way up to 80 percent in just an hour. Zero to a full one hundred percent only takes slightly longer at 80 minutes.

Pair the DELTA 2 with EcoFlow’s range of solar panels and you can even charge your Portable Power Station without increasing the electricity bill. Again EcoFlow has improved on charging speed with the DELTA able to charge from solar in three to six hours when using one 400W and two 220W portable solar panels. This kind of speed is hard to beat with solar and this is thanks to EcoFlow’s MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) smart algorithm that targets higher than 98 percent efficiency.

These numbers are even more impressive when compared to other large battery tech, such as those in UPSs, which need to sit and charge for several hours on end, even when receiving charge from the wall. When higher stages of loadshedding roll around and South Africans are subjected to 12 hours or more of loadshedding per day, the faster charging of the DELTA 2 becomes invaluable.

While the offering of the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Portable Power Station is invaluable, you may be surprised by its low price which puts both generators and UPSs to shame, especially when you consider that you never have to worry about growing fuel prices and the sometimes unreliable batteries in a UPS. The DELTA 2 with its super reliable LFP battery system, and a five-year warranty, is available in South Africa right now.

While the EcoFlow DELTA 2 is a Portable Power Station made to go anywhere and power anything, it can be set up in a more permanent situation in your home or office. Not only is connection quick and simple, but once it is set up you can still make changes remotely. The DELTA 2 connects to your Wi-Fi and can be controlled with the EcoFlow app remotely. This ensures that your DELTA 2 is always charged up for when you need it, and you don’t have to worry about a lack of charge when you get back from being out.
