- Sun International is warning South Africans to avoid a scam promotion offering a night’s stay at Sun City for R25.
- People should remain vigilant as more scams are cropping up at the moment given the fervour around Black Friday deals.
- A telltale sign of the scam is that it says the bogus deal is to celebrate the 50th or 55th anniversary of Sun City, which is only 44 years old.
Black Friday deals are already in full swing for November, and are only set to intensify in terms of frequency over the coming days and weeks. As such, the number of scams will also be on the rise, which is why Sun International is warning South Africans about a recent scam claiming to offer R25 a night stay at Sun City.
Sun International reached out to Hypertext, and is making an urgent appeal to visitors not to respond to any social media posts purportedly offering accommodation and dinner at any Sun City hotel for only R25 a night.
“This is a scam clearly intended to defraud people, and we’re asking members of the public to be careful when responding to special offers that do not come directly from Sun City or Sun International,” noted Sun City general manager Brett Hoppe.
“Before replying to any accommodation offer for any Sun International property, please confirm that it is a valid deal by visiting our official website www.suninternational.com. Better still, book directly on our direct-booking platform which also offers great deals, or use a registered tour operator,” he advised in a press statement sent to Hypertext.
One of the telltale signs of this new scam is the fact that it makes mention of the deal being linked to a celebration of the 50th or 55th anniversary of the iconic resort. As Sun International points out, the resort only opened in 1979, which would make the resort 44 years old.
With scams on the rise given the fervour around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it is important to stay vigilant.
