Buy Now Pay Later arrives at Makro ahead of Black Friday

  • PayJustNow has partnered with Makro to make Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options available to customers.
  • PayJustNow facilitates BNPL at other local retailers including Game, PnP Clothing, and Samsung.
  • Makro will make the new purchasing option available at its 22 warehouse stores.

The business end of Black Friday is now upon us, with deals and discounts ramping up before kicking off in earnest come midnight on 24th November. For Makro customers, a new purchasing option will be made available in the form of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) thanks to a partnership between the MassMart-owned retailer and PayJustNow.

We have seen BNPL come to the fore in a significant way in recent years, and perhaps even more so in 2023 as a result of the global economic downturn.

In fact PayJustNow has noted a distinct growth of late, sharing that it has amassed more than one million South African customers as of the end of August this year, having had 649 000 at the end of 2022.

“Shoppers are increasingly seeking convenient, cost-effective payment options to ease some of the financial pressures brought by a challenging market environment. With the introduction of PayJustNow in-store, we are bringing greater convenience to our shoppers, enabling us to help our customers save money on the products that they need, so they can live better,” notes Varsha Dayaram, SVP for Group Financial Services at Massmart, regarding the partnership.

Makro confirms that the new buying option will be made available at its 22 warehouse stores across the country for this Black Friday and beyond.

“Consumers can simply choose PayJustNow at checkout to split their payments into three equal, interest-free monthly charges, removing some of the cash-flow pressure of making larger purchases,” the retailer shared in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“As we approach the peak Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Festive Season shopping periods, the flexibility offered by BNPL allows retailers like Makro to grow their customer base and deliver a superior customer experience that can drive higher levels of customer loyalty,” added Craig Newborn, CEO of PayJustNow.

If you want to use the company’s BNPL services at other local retailers, it counts Game, PnP Clothing, Samsung, and more among its retail partners in SA.
