Classic Jurassic Park games come to modern consoles

  • Seven retro Jurassic Park games are being revived for modern consoles thanks to publisher Limited Run Games.
  • The games will be available on Steam, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4/5 and the Nintendo Switch.
  • Originally available on the SNES, the Genesis and the Game Boy, these games harken back to the bygone time of arcade gaming.

Among all the film properties that were transformed into videogames, very few could match the catalogue of the Jurassic Park IP. While the films changed the way Hollywood makes movies through innovations in computer-generated images, the games – well they didn’t really change gaming, but there’s a few classics to be found.

Among them is the PlayStation 1 fighting game Jurassic Park Warpath, and then the PlayStation 2 theme park builder Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, whose bones were taken and transformed into the modern Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2.

But before these titles hit home gaming, Jurassic Park fans got a change to enjoy the expanded universe at the arcade. Most of these older 2D or sidescroller tites were lost to time. But as we all know: life, uh, finds a way.

Today, Limited Run Games has announced a revival of seven retro Jurassic Park games now headed for modern consoles and the PC via Steam.

These are:

  • Jurassic Park (NES),
  • Jurassic Park (SNES),
  • Jurassic Park (Game Boy),
  • Jurassic Park (Genesis),
  • Jurassic Park: The Chaos Continues (SNES),
  • Jurassic Park: The Chaos Continues (Game Boy),
  • Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition (Genesis).

Limited Run, a game publisher that specialises in redistributing rare releases, has partnered with Universal Products and Experiences, an arm of Universal Pictures, to revive these games for a modern audience.

“The 8-bit and 16-bit era of Jurassic Park games has returned. This nostalgic release includes a lineup of classic titles and adds new features, including save states for each game, new in-game maps, and various quality-of-life fixes that bring these titles into the modern era of gaming. The additions and extras added to this collection are carefully curated to celebrate the legacy of the 1993 film from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment and this set of games,” Limited Run said in a press release sent to us.

All seven of the games will be included in the Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection available from 23rd November 2023 digitally on PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox Series X|S, the Nintendo Switch, and on Steam for $29.99 or ~R563.46.
