New platform wants to disrupt local digital hiring sector

  • One Degree recently launched locally as a digital hiring platform that aims to connect businesses with skilled technology contractors.
  • The platform says it has been designed with, “modern gig economy, remote work, and radical flexibility trends in mind.”
  • One Degree also seems to eliminate HR headaches and costs like recruitment agency fees.

Much has been made of the tech skills shortage in South Africa, and while those concerns continue to grow, a new digital hiring platform has been launched locally that aims to make connections between businesses and skilled technology contractors easier.

That platform is called One Degree, and it is described as, “a live, self-curated, managed platform that connects experienced, independent tech contractors directly with global employers.”

It has also been designed with the gig economy, remote work, and flexibility trends in mind, according to its creators.

“Today’s fast-paced global IT job market has added tremendous pressure on organisations to quickly and cost-effectively source the right talent. Traditional recruitment methods have become cost-prohibitive, resource-intensive, and imprecise, resulting in frustrations and ultimately prohibiting growth for businesses,” notes Lindsay Cowan, CEO at One Degree, in. a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Both corporates and SMEs have compelling reasons to join One Degree. One of the foremost reasons is the promise of increased efficiency and precision. With One Degree, the businesses will no longer have to go through the time-consuming process of sifting through numerous CVs, many of which are irrelevant, when looking to fill a vacancy,” it adds of the platform’s interface.

One of the other key aspects of the platform is that it eliminates recruitment agency fees, which places less of an administrative burden on HR teams within organisations, as well as reducing some of the costs involved when looking to hire new talent.

Added to this is the ability to either be hired or hire from a global network of businesses and contractors respectively, with the benefit of a remote working environment.

“With over three decades of experience in the recruitment sector, we have built One Degree with a profound understanding of the challenges faced by today’s businesses, as well as recognition of the massive growth in demand for flexible tech contractors,” concludes Cowan.

If you’re a technology contractor looking to sign up, or a business scouring for talent, you can check out the One Degree platform here.
