Season 3 of The Bear confirmed by FX

  • FX drama The Bear has been renewed for a third season.
  • The show stars Jeremy Allen White of Shameless fame and has garnered significant critical and commercial acclaim.
  • No release date has been set for the third season as of yet, but it may premier in the first half of 2024.

Critically acclaimed comedy-drama series The Bear has been renewed for a third season according to creators FX. South African viewers will be able to watch the third season, like the first two, only on Disney+ since Hulu is not available locally.

We’re not the biggest fans of the version of Disney+ we get here in SA, but The Bear might be worth the slog of using the Hotstar-built platform. The show sees Jeremy Allen White (Shameless) in the leading role as he and the staff working at a rundown sandwich shop struggle to turn their establishment into a fine dining restaurant, complete with all the drama and heat of a high-pressure kitchen.

In the latest season, the cast of The Bear worked to renovate and reopen their restaurant. “It turned out the only thing harder than running a restaurant was opening a new one, and the team had to juggle the insane bureaucracy of permits and contractors with the beauty and creative agony of menu planning. The transition brought a newfound focus on hospitality as well,” writes Disney+ in a press release sent to Hypertext.

Season one was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, acting nominations for Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Jon Bernthal and Oliver Platt, along with nominations for writing, directing, casting, production design, picture editing, sound editing and sound mixing.

“The Bear which wowed audiences in its first season only to achieve even greater heights in season two, has become a cultural phenomenon,” said Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment.

“We’re so proud to partner with Christopher Storer, Joanna Calo, Josh Senior, and the rest of the creative team, as well as the brilliant cast led by Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. What they and the crew have done is truly remarkable, and we and our partners at Hulu and Disney+ join fans in looking forward to the next chapter in the story of The Bear,” he added.

There is no word yet on when the third season will premier. The second season launched on 22nd June, so it’s probable that the third will become available for streaming sometime in the first half of next year.
