Take a look inside the new Nintendo Store in South Africa

  • The revamped Nintendo Store in Sandton City is now open.
  • We visited the grand opening ceremony to give you a look inside.
  • Those who can’t visit in person can still shop online.

This morning we brought you the news that South Africa, and Africa as a whole, now has the first of its kind Nintendo Store which has opened in Sandton City.

For those who can’t visit the store, and those simply curious as to what’s inside, we have you covered.

Check out our gallery below for images we snapped of the various items on sale and the sections set up where you can demo the hardware and games on offer.

As we discussed in the earlier article each part of the store is meticulously organised to match a specific franchise or group. This makes it easier to shop for specific items and it tickles that part of our brain that loves organisation.

Some items that caught our eye was the huge array of amiibos. Not only does the Nintendo Store have a large selection, but also in stock items that are older and hard to come by, especially in South Africa.

Also of note is the large amount of Pokémon merchandise including trading cards, wearable merch, games, branded controllers and much more. You can also spot in the gallery a Poké Ball signed by Veronica Taylor, the original voice actress for Ash in the Pokémon cartoon.

Taylor was one of the celebrity guests at Comic Con Africa 2023 back in September, so it seems someone involved with the Nintendo Store had the forethought to attend the con and get the Poké Ball signed just for this display.

If, at this point, you’re feeling a bit left out if you’re unable to visit Sandton City, just remember that the online store for the Nintendo Store is available and will ship across South Africa.
