In SA? Here’s how to watch Samsung reveal the Galaxy S24 tonight

  • Samsung will host its Galaxy Unpacked event tonight, at 20:00 South African time.
  • The event is expected to showcase the latest Samsung smartphone and the company’s new generative AI technology.
  • The show will be streamed live on the official Samsung website and on the company YouTube channel.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series of smartphones is expected to be revealed by the South Korean tech giant at its first Galaxy Unpacked event this year. The event will be held live in San Jose, California later today (17th January) and Hypertext will be there in person to check out all the anticipated new innovations.

Luckily for everyone else who can’t make the live show, Samsung will stream the event worldwide across several different channels. The first two to check out when the event stars is the Samsung official website which will host the stream, and the company’s official YouTube channel.

The event is slated to start at 13:00 PT in the US, which will be at 20:00 tonight in South Africa since Eastern Time is seven hours behind local time.

Here’s what we can expect – Samsung Galaxy S24 reveal and new AI products

Apart from new smartphones from Samsung, the event is also expected to be a major showcase for the company’s new AI technology. It seems the tech world is entirely enraptured with generative AI and Samsung is no different.

“Galaxy AI” as the company’s own tech is called has been described as Samsung’s own “comprehensive mobile AI experience” and something beyond the existing experience with Bixby. The company says that conversation, productivity and creativity features on Samsung’s smartphone will all be touched by Galaxy AI in some way.

The star of the show, however, is the expected launch of the latest Galaxy flagship – the Samsung Galaxy S24. The company is seemingly content to continue releasing a new flagship model every year, probably in a bid to offset a worldwide dampening in the demand for consumer electronics like smartphones.

Much that we know about the expected device is garnered from leaks, which point to a phone similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra in terms of looks. We also know that the new smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

However, with just a year’s worth of lead time, we will have to wait and see just how much Samsung has managed to change and improve upon from the S23 to the S24, and if it will be worth a buy instead of just checking out last year’s model.
