Melon Mobile ventures into AI with new partnership

  • Melon Mobile has announced a partnership with SourseAI to bring more AI-powered features to the fully digital MVNO.
  • The company aims to use SourseAI’s capabilities to scrutinise extensive data sets in order to make data-led decisions.
  • SourseAI collaborates with 15 Telecoms brands across the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Melon Mobile has been operating in South Africa as a fully digital mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) for under a year, but it is already starting to make strides.

The latest development at the MVNO is related to artificial intelligence, and in particular, the announcement of a partnership with SourseAI.

Unlike many other local network operators that have looked to embrace AI to empower employees within their work environments, Melon Mobile aims to leverage the capabilities of SourseAI to better roll out solutions for its individual and business customers.

SourseAI is responsible for the AI-driven decision making at 15 Telecoms brands across the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with an aggregate of 20 million mobile services analysed in real-time. The addition of Melon Mobile to this list now gives it a presence in Africa.

“Traditional telcos face a real challenge to genuinely connect with their customers and understand their true value. They sit on mountains of data, but they often struggle to make the most of it. Only AI and data science can help someone analyse and interpret all this data in real-time to provide tangible business insights with any degree of certainty,” posited Tanya Hyams-Young, CEO of SourseAI.

“Many telcos can spend years building an AI and data-science team before seeing tangible insights and results. The beauty of Atlas by SourseAI, is it can deliver results in a matter of weeks and doesn’t require a dedicated in-house team,” she noted in a release shared with Hypertext.

While it has not detailed any specific AI-powered features that are set to roll out imminently, the company has unpacked some areas where SourseAI is expected to have an impact:

“Enhanced Understanding of Customers: Leveraging AI to deepen Melon Mobile understanding of customer behaviour and trends.”

  • “Optimisation of Revenue and Costs:  Creating cost-effective, value-driven mobile solutions.
  • Decisions Driven by Data: Melon Mobile will incorporate data science to create a more personalised mobile experience for every client.
  • Improved business performance: Considerably boosting customer acquisition and retention, along with a positive increase in customer lifetime value.”

“Melon Mobile is continuously looking for new ways to disrupt the status quo. Whether it’s through our App, our solutions and pricing, or by elevating customers’ individualised offerings,” added CEO, Calvin Collet.

“Atlas, from SourseAI, gives us the tools to deeply understand our business and our customers to proactively develop solutions that work for them, cementing our customer-first approach,” he concluded.
