Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 13 series worldwide

  • Xiaomi has announced the worldwide launch of the Redmi Note 13 series.
  • The series is headlined by the flagship Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G which comes with a 200MP main camera and MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra processor.
  • With prices starting at just under ~R8 000 for the top of the series’ range, the Redmi Note 13 smartphones are made with affordability in mind.

At a launch event in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday, Xiaomi revealed that its Redmi Note 13 series of smartphones, including the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro, Redmi Note 13 5G, and Redmi Note 13 have launched internationally.

All the models feature different specifications and configuration of features, decreasing in power and innovation from the Note 13 Pro+ 5G down to the base Redmi Note 13, which is the less complex smartphone Xiaomi is launching worldwide.

We have enjoyed seeing the engineering chops of Xiaomi in the past, especially with its flagship lineup and its Pro models. In particular the Redmi Note 12 Pro earned a nearly perfect score from us in our review of the device last year.

At the same event, Xiaomi also announced the international launches of the Redmi Watch 4, the Redmi Buds 5, and Redmi Buds 5 Pro.

Xiaomi says that the Redmi Note 13 series represents significant upgrades to camera system, design, display and processor over the previous iteration.

Redmi Note 13 series camera array

In terms of camera, the Pro models – Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 13 Pro – all feature a 200MP main camera. In comparison, the latest iPhone 15 features a 50MP main snapper.

This camera setup also has optical image stabilization (OIS), and 2x/4x lossless zoom. Meanwhile, the base models, Redmi Note 13 5G and Redmi Note 13, are equipped with a still-impressive 108MP main camera with 3x lossless zoom.

All the devices in the series also contain an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 16MP selfie camera, apart from their respective main cameras.

Display and processor specifications

Display-wise, Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G and Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G offer a 1.5K AMOLED display and 1800 nits maximum brightness, while the Redmi Note 13 Pro, Redmi Note 13 5G, and Redmi Note 13 feature a FHD+ AMOLED display.

For the first time ever in a Redmi device, Xiaomi says that the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G – the top-of-the-range flagship of the series – is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra chipset. The Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G comes with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 mobile platform chip, and the 13 Pro is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G99-Ultra chipset.

The Chinese manufacturer chose not to indicate what chipsets come in the base models, but we’re expecting much less powerful silicon for these models due to their more affordable nature. All the Pro models are equipped with 5 000mAh batteries. The Note 13 Pro 5G and the Note 13 Pro both feature 67W fast charging which Xiaomi says takes 45 minutes to charge to 100 percent.

Xiaomi Note 13 series – pricing and availability

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G starts at the retail price of $400 or around R7 553, which is still in the mid-range category, similarly priced to Samsung Galaxy machines in the A50 series. Pricing decreases from this model.

  • Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G -$304,
  • Redmi Note 13 Pro – $250,
  • Redmi Note 13 5G – $229,
  • Redmi Note 13 – $179.

Previous Xiaomi Redmi Note series have found their way to South Africa in the past, so it is likely the 13 series will be no different. It just depends on which models. Officially says that different markets will get the smartphones at different times, but in the meanwhile we have reached out to Xiaomi representatives for any information on when this series of smartphones will land locally.
