Brigador Killers has a ‘Secret Alpha’ you can buy right now

  • Brigador Killers is the follow up to the indie darling Brigador.
  • An unfinished version of the game can be bought in a “Secret Alpha” mode.
  • Buying in now gets you extra perks.

Brigador Killers, the anticipated indie title to come after Brigador 2016, is offering players a unique way to buy an experiance the game with a “Secret Alpha”.

In a post on Itch.io, it is explained that this Secret Alpha is supposed to be a throwback to the way that Steam used to work which will give fans a way to properly engage in the unfinished title.

“When our first game was released – back when it was called Matador – it initially came out in a closed alpha in April 2014 on Steam. This was back when Steam Greenlight still existed, and early access games were still treated as a way for people invested in a game’s development to see the inner workings. It was a period when gameplay looked and sounded like this. We show you this old unpolished footage intentionally to give you an idea of what to expect from our first alpha build of Brigador Killers,” the post explains.

The linked footage above is from October 2013 which is quite some time before the June 2016 release of Brigador.

With buyers aware that this Secret Alpha is not at all close to the finished product, those still keen can pay $25 (~R471) to experience this early version of the game and help its development along.

This unlocks the Secret Alpha build of the game that will be updated and changed as the game’s development progresses, a Steam key at some point in the future, and access to SJTiled (the tool used to make levels in the game).

The Secret Alpha contains your base, an NPC to talk to, a suburban estate to explore and an underground tunnel. Players will control “Cavalier Oblique”, a member of a hit squad tasked with fighting enemies and connecting items called brain tapes.

If you’d like to get involved with the Secret Alpha, its Itch.io page can be found here. At this point we really have to stress, again, that this is for a certain group of people who are more interested in game development and championing rather than buying and playing a fun game.

“Most of the maps will feel incomplete, combat is limited, various effects still aren’t in and the mechanics will not have much depth. As of time of writing we’re still dealing with crash bugs. If all of this sounds unappealing, or you are not sure whether you should be buying the game this early, then please don’t,” the post continues.

The post also mentions that this experiment is for experienced community members, modders and those who used to play the original Steam Greenlight titles and understand the realities of game development.

That’s why all of this is “secret”, but we thought we’d still shine a spotlight on this project for those who may miss this news and for those wondering about the status of Brigador Killers.

For more on the first game, Brigador, we highly recommend the below video from channel MandaloreGaming which acted as many people’s introduction to the title. The great mech action, unique story and interesting setting displayed by MandaloreGaming are all elements that players are looking forward to seeing again in Brigador Killers.
