Check out a locally-made smartwatch at the Rand Show this weekend

  • Local health and fitness brand Khoi Tech will be showcasing its AfriWatch 1 at the Rand Show this weekend.
  • The wearable looks well-appointed but is priced in the same region as wearables from Samsung and Huawei.
  • The Rand Show runs from 28th March to 1st April and the entrance for a family of four will cost R320.

Sowetan-based health and fitness brand Khoi Tech will be showcasing its flagship product at the Rand Show 2024 taking place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre at Nasrec in Johannesburg from today until 1st April.

The product in question is a smartwatch known as the AfriWatch 1. The wearable features a 1.65 inch touch display along with a heart rate sensor, blood oxygen monitoring and of course activity tracking.

The wearable has an IP68 waterproof and dust resistance rating so it looks like a suitable companion for active individuals. The strap is soft silicon which should make it more comfortable if you want to take advantage of sleep monitoring. The wearable can be used to track 12 different activities.

Powering things along is a 170mAh lithium polymer battery and Khoi Tech reckons you can recharge the Afriwatch1 fully in around two hours after using it for a week. The wearable makes use of the Zeroner Health app and is compatible with both iOS and Android.

With a retail price of R2 499, you may want to get a look at the wearable for yourself before clicking buy and that’s exactly what you can do this weekend.

“At Khoi Tech, we believe that everyone deserves access to cutting-edge health and fitness solutions,” says Seati Moloi, founder and chief executive officer at Khoi Tech. “We are thrilled to be part of the Rand Show and to showcase our innovative products that empower individuals to take control of their wellness journey.”

While this watch does look good, its price puts it squarely in competition with the likes of Samsung and Huawei. You’re likely to find something a bit more feature rich than the AfriWatch 1 with a bit of shopping.

With that having been said, it may be worth checking Khoi Tech’s stand out at the Rand Show. The event will feature several family-friendly activities including a dinosaur exhibit, an SANDF display, a theme park, live music and more. The presence of the dinosaur expo and SANDF stir fond memories of the weekend-long show for some of us here at Hypertext and its a good way to get the family out and rack up that step count.

Tickets cost R70 for children between 4 – 12 and pensioners over 60. Visitors 13 years-old and older will be charged R110. A family of 4 can get a package deal for R320 and all tickets can be purchased online through Ticketpro. Secure parking will cost you R40.
