Everything we know about Apple’s WWDC 2024

  • Apple is set to host a few hours-long keynote to open up WWDC 2024 on 10th June 2024.
  • The company says it will unveil its latest and most groundbreaking updates during the keynote.
  • Apple says it will showcase advances across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS and watchOS in what is expected to be a software and possibly AI-heavy event.

This year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) was announced earlier this year to be held on 10th June 2024. The event is Apple’s software-heavy showcase, but this does not mean that new consumer tech won’t see the light of day – case in point, last year’s event and the launch of the Vision Pro.

In terms of what we can expect at the free-to-stream event this year – watchable on 10th June directly on the Apple website – the Cupertino tech titan has detailed a number of presentations now pencilled in for the day.

The free online conference brings the global Apple developer community together to provide them with

Apple confirms that it will provide developers who take part “insights into the latest technologies, tools, and frameworks coming to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, and watchOS. Throughout the week, developers will be able to hear from Apple engineers, designers, and other experts through more than 100 technical sessions, in-depth consultations, and live forums.”

The first thing happening at the event will be the Apple Keynote to kick off WWDC 2024. It will include a first look at “groundbreaking updates” coming to the company’s platforms this year. This will be where a lot of the most important news will be broken, including the latest updates to most Apple products, and possibly a new product or two along the way.

We’re expecting this year’s keynote to feature a few – not as much as Google – mentions of generative AI, as the company ramps up its investments into the space in recent months. Here we could see Apple launch its ChatGPT-like app for iPhone and iPad and finally reveal who its AI partner will be.

Last year’s keynote was over two hours long, touching on just about everything Apple and introducing the Vision Pro.

About an hour after the keynote, Apple will host its Platforms State of the Union, where it will take a deep dive into all the advances touched on during the keynote presentation, including advances across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, and watchOS, and new tools for Apple developers.

The last major newsworthy piece of WWDC this year will be the Apple Design Awards, where the company will celebrate standouts in app and game design, including highlighting creativity and technical expertise.

Finalists have already been declared on the Apple Developers website, and vying for the top app includes the drawing app Dudel Draw, journaling app Bears Gratitude, and puzzle game Rooms. Interestingly, Call of Duty: Warzone for mobile is in the running for Best Innovation in gaming, while Lies of P, Honkai: Star Rail, and Death Stranding are all up for Best Graphics.

Developers who attend the event in-person or via the Developer App via iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro or Apple TV, will get access to experts like Apple engineers and designers via online labs. Apple is also offering over 100 technical sessions throughout the week.

“WWDC24 will offer developers a chance to hear from Apple engineers, designers, and other experts for a deeper dive into the latest technologies and frameworks. Sessions will be available on the Apple Developer app, website, and YouTube channel,” the company says in an announcement.

Hypertext will have more coverage of WWDC 2024 following the event and likely beforehand as more details emerge.
