IBM software via AWS Marketplace expands to 92 countries, including SA

  • IBM has announced that its software portfolio is now available in 92 countries worldwide thanks to a partnership with AWS Marketplace.
  • The expansion includes South Africa, with 19 in total across the African continent.
  • Potential customers will also be able to access watsonx, which is IBM’s data and AI platform, via Marketplace.

Back in November of last year, IBM and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that the pair would be expanding their collaborative efforts when it comes to generative AI. Now they are assisting one another when it comes to cloud-related services too, as the IBM software portfolio is now available in 92 countries via the AWS Marketplace.

This comes after a recent expansion which sees IBM software available in 19 countries across the African continent, including South Africa.

The 19 African countries are as follows:

  • Angola,
  • Burkina Faso,
  • Cameroon,
  • Chad,
  • Egypt,
  • Ethiopia,
  • Gabon,
  • Kenya,
  • Madagascar,
  • Malawi,
  • Morocco,
  • Rwanda,
  • Seychelles,
  • Sierra Leone,
  • South Africa,
  • Tanzania,
  • Tunisia,
  • Uganda.

IBM is particular excited about the capabilities that its software-as-a-service offerings will bring to customers on the continent, as well as its AI platform – watsonx.

“Today’s news provides clients more access to IBM’s leading artificial intelligence (AI) and data technologies within a portfolio of 44 listings and 29 SaaS offerings available for purchase. Included among those technologies are components of the watsonx AI and Data platform, which allow enterprises to build, scale and govern AI workloads. Watsonx.data, a fit-for-purpose data store built on an open data lakehouse architecture, and Watsonx.ai, a next generation enterprise studio for AI builders are available in AWS Marketplace as well as two of IBM’s AI Assistants — watsonx Assistant and watsonx Orchestrate,” pointed out IBM in a release shared with Hypertext.

“By leveraging the speed and simplified procurement capabilities of AWS Marketplace, customers can now more easily access IBM’s cutting-edge solutions, enabling them to accelerate their digital transformation and drive innovation at scale. This expanded collaboration between AWS and IBM reflects our shared commitment to empowering customers with the tools and resources they need to succeed in today’s fast-paced environment, added said Matt Yanchyshyn, GM of AWS Marketplace and Partner Services at AWS.

Along with those cloud-specific offerings, IBM noted that it will add 15 new consulting professional services and assets on AWS Marketplace. These new service offerings are said to be aligned to client needs and demand, focusing on data and application modernisation, security services, and industry-specific solutions.

“By availing IBM’s portfolio of software on AWS Marketplace, we are expanding the points of entry for local organizations, both large and small, to have quick and easy access to IBM’s leading AI, data and cloud solutions, accelerating the secure modernization of IT infrastructures and digital transformation of our enterprise landscape,” added Ria Pinto, GM and Technology leader at IBM SA.
