TECNO Spark 20 Pro 5G expected in SA in July

  • TECNO Mobile South Africa held a launch event for its latest mid-range lineup of devices – the Spark 20 series.
  • The flagship device within that lineup is the Spark 20 Pro 5G, which is expected to launch in SA a little later than the rest.
  • When it does launch in SA, the smartphone will carry an RRP of R10 999.

Last night TECNO Mobile held a launch event for its latest Spark 20 series, which runs the gamut of affordable entry-level to mid-range devices.

On the more expensive (relatively speaking) side of the scale is the Spark 20 Pro 5G, which is destined to land in South Africa a little later than the rest of the lineup, and on paper could give diehard Samsung Galaxy A fans something to think about.

We sat down with some representatives from TECNO Mobile South Africa on the night to discuss the new lineup, where it was confirmed that the Spark 20 Pro 5G is expected to arrive in country in July, although a precise date has not been mentioned.

“We recently launched the Spark 20 C with Edgars, so that was an exclusive launch for us, and it was retailing at an incredible price. We also launched the Spark GO 2024 in the TFG (The Foschini Group) channel. With the Spark 20 Pro 5G, that will be launched at a later stage, around July,” a spokesperson told Hypertext.

“The rest of the devices, like the Spark 20, have started to filter into channel partners, so availability will be during Q2, where you can find all of those devices,” they added.

We’re interested to see what the consumer response is the to device, especially as it carries a truly competitive R10 999 recommended retail price tag.

The full specifications of the TECNO Spark 20 Pro 5G are as follows:

With the mid-range space growing increasingly competitive as the margins get finer between smartphones from different brands, it will be interesting to see how the latest series from TECNO performs, especially as the company was buoyant as it achieved a 15 percent market share in Q1 2024 locally to claim second place in SA during that period.

Added to this is the growing presence of the TECNO brand, which only sits behind Samsung and Apple in terms of being an admired brand on the African continent.
