[VIDEO] Unboxing the HUAWEI Pura 70 Pro

HUAWEI Mobile South Africa has launched its latest lineup of flagship phones locally – the Pura 70 series. There are three models landing in SA, the 70, 70 Pro, and 70 Ultra.

Today we’re taking a closer look at the device sitting in the middle of the lineup, and unboxing the Pura 70 Pro to see precisely what consumers will get for a smartphone that retails for a recommended R26 999.

Firstly, in usual HUAWEI fashion, the company has not chosen to withhold any accessories or peripherals in the box, which has become a concerning trend for a lot of other flagship phone makers these days.

To that end, HUAWEI has included a USB Type-C cable and accompanying charger, with the latter being rare among other phone makers as well. There’s a protective cover too, which is even rarer, along with a SIM tray tool. All of this means you don’t need to make any additional purchases to get the Pura 70 Pro booted up and ready to use.

Shifting focus to the phone itself, HUAWEI is bringing two colour options to SA – White and Black. The rear cover of the Black option we’re unboxing today features a textured matte finish.  The Pro model might sit in the middle, but it is not under-specced by any means.

Sticking with the rear, the camera array of the Pura 70 Pro features much of the same DNA that helped the 70 Ultra achieve the top score globally from DXOMARK in terms of camera performance. This is a feat that last year’s HUAWEI P60 Pro also mustered, so it is clear that the company’s XMAGE division knows what it is doing when it comes to smartphone cameras.

Delivering this performance is a trio of lenses on the rear. These include a 50MP Ultra Lighting, 12.5MP Ultra wide-angle, and 48MP Ultra Lighting macro telephoto lens.

The latter will be of particular interest to photographers that enjoy capturing fine detail as the 70 Pro boasts up to 35 times macro zoom from a distance as close as 5 centimetres. Sport, motoring, and wildlife photographers will also be happy to hear that HUAWEI has added a new Ultra Speed Snapshot feature that is capable of clearly capturing objects that move as fast as 300km/h.

Flipping the Pura 70 Pro over will bring the large 6.8-inch OLED X-True display into view, which supports adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz and boasts a peak brightness of 2 500 nits. This screen is notable for featuring HUAWEI’s Super Durable Kunlun Glass too, where drop resistance has been enhanced by 100 percent.

As for the internal elements for this flagship phone, powering the Pura 70 Pro is a mammoth 5 050mAh battery. The Pura 70 Pro also supports up to 100W wired fast charging. Being a part of a flagship lineup, HUAWEI has not forgotten about memory or storage either, with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage onboard to support the octa-core Kirin 9010 processor present.
