Rick and Morty: The Anime trailer released ahead of August debut

  • Adult Swim has dropped a trailer for Rick and Morty: The Anime.
  • The series will premier on Adult Swim on 15th August, landing on the Max streaming service thereafter.
  • The Anime is set in an alternate universe and will run for 10 episodes.

If you haven’t had your fill of Rick and Morty post-Roiland, there is a new 10-episode series on the way in the form of Rick and Morty: The Anime.

As the name suggests, this is an anime-inspired take on the Rick and Morty universe, with it serving up a new version of the multiverse for fans of the series to enjoy.

Two weeks ago Adult Swim shared a preview on YouTube for the upcoming series, but now a full-length trailer has been released ahead of its official debut on 15th August. The series is premiering on Adult Swim, after which it will be available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max).

Along with an English dub featuring for the premiering episodes, there will a Japanese dub with English subtitles too a couple of days after as well for those wanting an “authentic” anime experience.

At the time of writing, it is unclear how South African Rick and Morty fans will be able to watch the 10-episode series, with no word on whether it is coming to Netflix like past seasons have. Max is not officially available in SA either, but we may have to lean on services like Showmax which has strong ties with HBO content in order to watch The Anime.

Per Variety, helming the series is Takashi Sano, who was also involved with the Crunchyroll original, Tower of God. Sano also wrote the series, so it will be interesting to see how the complex and nuanced themes of past seasons are handled without the input of series co-creator Dan Harmon.

“Takashi Sano, in addition to being a super-talented director, is also a huge ‘Rick and Morty’ fan,” Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, told the publication.

“He’s the perfect person to give us all this alternate version of this amazing show. And the perfect way to launch this series is by doing our favorite thing – drive ridiculous vehicles around and come see all of you in person. Keep an eye out for our Rickmobile and Mortymobile as they cruise across the country and wrack up various toll tickets to celebrate the expansion of the ‘Rick and Morty’ universe,” added Ouweleen.

Hit play on the trailer below and enjoy the chaos.
