SA gets new QLED TVs from TCL, including monstrous 115 incher

  • TCL Electronics South Africa has launched a spate of new products at an event held in Sandton on Thursday evening.
  • The most notable of which is a new 115″ QD-Mini 4K smart TV, on sale for R400 000.
  • 10 other TV sets were introduced, as well as smart home appliances and air conditioners, as the brand looks to ramp up its impact in the local market.

At an event in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg, TCL Electronics South Africa launched a new lineup of products to the local market, including a slate of smart TVs, as well as new smart home appliances and air conditioners.

The star of the show was the “largest QD-Mini LED TV” in the world, which is a bit of a strange prize to claim as the only company that really does QD-Mini LED anything is TCL. This particular set is notably 115″ and images taken of the monster TV simply do not do the size justice.

TCL says that the screen has a peak brightness of 5 000 nits and over 20 000+ local dimming zones. More dimming zones allow for better backlighting controls. The smart TVs also come with automatic screen brightness gauges, which adjust to the local darkness or light in a room and are set up with Google’s Android TV software and Gemini AI.

The media were invited for a presentation from the company’s top brass, including the general manager of TCL South Africa, Mike Chen. Incredibly enthusiastic about the evening, Chen indicated that it might become something TCL does every year, teasing more high-profile launches in South Africa for the future.

The 115″ screen is not the only smart TV the company is bringing locally, instead, TCL will sell 11 new TVs locally, including the monster one. This is on top of the existing smart TVs already available from the brand, like the C835 mini LED.

There are four ranges of smart TV launched by TCL in South Africa, and each of the ranges comes with unique add-ons and gimmicks.

C655 QLED TV:

  • 55″ – R7 999.00,
  • 65″ – R9 999.00,
  • 75″ – R15 999.00,
  • 85″ – R22 999.00,
  • 98″ – R49 999.00.

QD-Mini LED 4K TV C755:

  • 55″ – R11 999.00,
  • 65″ – R16 999.00,
  • 85″ – R29 999.00,
  • 98″ – R69 999.00.

Premium QD-Mini LED 4K TV C855:

  • 65″ – R24 999.00.

And of course, the 115″ behemoth – QD-Mini LED TV X955 Max – R 399 999.00.

TCL will be selling the TVs locally through new partnerships with Massmart in stores like Makro and Game, as well as through existing partners like Incredible, HiFi Corp and others. For the largest model, you will have to wait a while before you receive it, as TCL will have to import from overseas. But the company did say certain retailers will lend you a smaller QD-Mini LED from TCL to use in the meanwhile before the big one comes.

Also, much was made about the size of the 115″ TV and that it weighs over 200kg. TCL confirmed that they have installers on hand who will come to your house and set up the screen around a day or two after purchasing.

“We are excited to introduce our newest line of TCL products to our valued customers in the region, tailored to meet their evolving needs,” enthused Chen in a press statement to Hypertext.

“By bringing the latest advancements in cutting-edge technology to the South African market, we aim to provide exceptional products that enhance lifestyles, promote health, and offer convenience through our innovative range of TCL TVs and domestic appliances.”

TCL envisions a bright future for itself locally, through its smartphones, home appliances and now TV sets. The company also introduced the FreshIN 3.0 and BreezeIN air conditioning systems at the event, all connected through Google smart home software.
