The wildest Nintendo Switch 2 leaks to date

  • New information leaks about the supposed Nintendo Switch 2 have revealed loads of alleged details about the console.
  • Nintendo will reportedly reveal the console as soon as Thursday this week, with a teaser announcement on Wednesday.
  • Graphically intense AAA games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Assassin’s Creed Mirage will supposedly be available on the system.

We have been scrambling for a crumb of official detail about the upcoming new console from Nintendo, which we will call the Switch 2 for ease despite the console not having a public official name yet, for more than a year and now all of a sudden everything seems to be traveling at full steam (no pun intended).

According to noted leaker Nate the Hate, whose statements were backed by The Verge’s “own insider sources”, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed this week, specifically on Thursday 16th January. The Verge says that it will likely be teased in an announcement the day before and be fully revealed on the 16th.

Additionally, the reveal will be followed by a showcase of games coming to the new console, either in late February or early March.

This is because, according to the leaker, “the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”

This matches what with how the original Nintendo Switch was revealed, with a hardware showcase first, followed by a games and software showcase a few weeks later. However, we will get a glimpse of the new games heading to the machine in the first reveal as there will almost certainly be new software shown running on the console.

New games expected on the Nintendo Switch 2

The speculations are running rampant as to what games could be coming to the new console, with Nate the Hate dropping a few names, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Metal Gear Solid Delta, all of which can be considered games that demand hardware that can handle modern AAA graphics.

Additionally, IGN believes that a brand new Mario Kart will be included alongside the Switch 2 as a launch title. A big bad 3D Mario game like Mario Odyssey is expected to be a holiday title for the console.

November last year saw Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa actually confirm something about the upcoming device, that it will feature backwards compatibility of original Switch games. One of these games is Xenoblade Chronicles X, the definite edition ported from the doomed Wii U.

Leaked launch date for the new console

Finally, the currently expected launch date, according to the Switch 2 leaks, will be in either May or June 2025. It will almost definitely launch in South Africa at a later date through our local representatives of the Japanese brand.

We can also speculate on the price, which will likely be more than the OLED version of the Switch which is R9 499.

The new console is expected to launch with OLED displays, and given the more advanced hardware and the popularity of the Switch way may be looking at more than R10 000 easily.
