This past weekend was a hot one, particularly for those on the highveld. It served as a preview that the coming weeks will prove uncomfortable if you’re stuck at home under alert level 1 lockdown without a body of water available to cool you down. Still, the country continues to fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.
As for the latest figures from the National Department of Health (NDoH), the usual ramping up throughout the week we’ve seen since the move to level 1 has continued, and the past 24 hours has seen 1 662 new cases being recorded over the past 24 hours.
At the time of writing, the total number of cases for SA to date now sits at 703 793, as the country surpasses the 700k mark. The number of recoveries, however, is yet to do the same, and is currently 634 543.
This translates to a recovery rate of 90 percent. If that figure sounds familiar, it is because the recovery rate has remained at that level for almost a month now, with it unclear when the number will rise.
Looking at fatalities, the NDoH reports that 63 more deaths have been recorded. The total now rises to 18 471.
Of the new 63, the NDoH has only recorded updated numbers from two provinces, with nine from the Eastern Cape and 54 from KwaZulu-Natal. As such, tomorrow’s numbers should be a lot higher with figures coming in from around the country.
