The Galaxy Ring is not headed to South Africa… this year

  • Samsung Mobile South Africa have confirmed that the Galaxy Ring is not being launched locally.
  • The new wearable is not slated for SA in 2024, but may be released in 2025.
  • Only four markets will get the Galaxy Ring at launch.

If you have been waiting for more information on the Galaxy Ring ever since Samsung’s surprise reveal of the new wearable at its S24 event at the beginning of the year, this afternoon the company officially unveiled it in full.

Sadly, however, it is not slated for release in South Africa.

This according to representatives of Samsung Mobile South Africa, who spoke with Hypertext at a local media pre-briefing for the latest Galaxy Unpacked. They explained that the regularity approval required to launch a device as unique as the Galaxy Ring makes a local launch untenable at this stage.

Added to this is the fact that Samsung globally is only planning to launch the device in four markets only for now, and reach 12 markets by the year’s end, with none of these being SA unfortunately.

All hopes of an official launch are not lost, however, as Samsung Mobile SA representatives did say that there is a possibility that the Galaxy Ring could be launched some time in 2025.

We pressed them for more information, but a more definitive timeframe could not be shared. Nor could they confirm whether the Galaxy Ring launched in South Africa would be the first iteration revealed in full this afternoon or a second generation of the wearable.

As for what the company is launching locally, both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 go up for pre-order this evening, along with the two models of Galaxy Buds3, Galaxy Watch Ultra, and Watch 7.

Details and recommended pricing for all of those products can be found here.
