At E3, in June this year, Microsoft announced its Games with Gold promotion, where existing Xbox Live Gold subscribers would get two free games a month.
Despite Microsoft saying that the promotion would only be valid from July, when the announcement was made users already noticed that Fable 3 was available for the price of free. The company later confirmed that Fable 3 in its entirety was available as a free download for Gold subscribers, and clarified that the two games per month would have staggered releases.
On the 1st of July Halo 3 was made available for free, but only until the 15th. From yesterday, the free game available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers is Assassin’s Creed II. It’s a hefty 4.6GB download – so make sure you have the bandwidth to spare – but you’ll be able to play it as many times as you want, even after you’ve stopped subscribing to Xbox Live.
