[WATCH] Ash Vs The Evil Dead trailer and behind the scenes

In the United States, Halloween is a much bigger deal than it is here in South Africa.

Neighbourhoods become swamped with parents and kids trick or treating, pumpkins and fake cobwebs adorn every second  household and even the odd bonfire takes place. All Halloween means in South Africa is that the local cinema might be getting a couple of new horror films to show.

However, this year there’s actually a reason to mark All Hallow’s Eve in your calendar: the arrival of the new TV series, Ash Vs The Evil Dead.

The title of that show means nothing to you, do yourself a favour and hunt down The Evil Dead trilogy (The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness). It’s easily one of the goriest, funniest and most entertaining series of films you’ll ever watch. (Oh, and don’t bother with the 2013 re-make, because it’s rubbish).

For the rest of you, read on…

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have joined forces to continue the story of boomstick-and-chainsaw-wielding hero, Ash Williams, and his ongoing war against the Deadites. Ash Vs The Evil Dead takes place after the events of Army Of Darkness and sees Ash schooling a couple of kids in the ways of dispatching zombies after The Evil unleashed by The Necronomicon in the original movie trilogy.

Judging by the tailer he planned 10-episode series promises to be equal parts hilarity and flying body parts. We warn you up front that it’s NSFW.

The show makers have also posted up a behind the scenes clip so fans can have a taster of what to expect from the series.

As was mentioned, the first episode is set to premiere Stateside on Halloween this year. There’s no word on whether it’ll be screened on terrestrial TV in South Africa at this stage, but you never know, Starz (the company behind the series) may take a page out of USA Network’s playbook with Mr Robot and release the first episode via YouTube. It seems like a decent way to combat piracy, after all…
