Donations pour in from businesses and public for #KnysnaFire victims

South African businesses and the public have rallied together to send donations in the form of money and goods to victims and firefighters involved in the fires in Knysna.

According non-profit organisation, Gift of the Givers, ten of its emergency services specialists, ambulances, supply trucks and support personnel are now in Knysna and it has brought along 32 tons of bottled water, blankets, diapers, food items and tents.

The Shoprite-Checkers Group has provided Gift of the Givers a massive two storey parking facility with security to store supplies coming from companies or the public, and has contributed large volumes of items in kind.

Makro and Game Stores have dispatched six trucks carrying tinned food, bottled water, dry rations and blankets. Woolworths has contributed R500 000 in cash as well as tons of items.

OUTsurance​ has donated R250 000 in cash and has challenged other insurance companies to do something similar, Mutual and Federal donated R400 000, Discovery donated R375 000 and expects another R200 000 to come in from Discovery Vitality members.

The Australian High Commission in South Africa has offered R250 000 Oxfam, has given provided R60 000. Local airline, kulula has offered free tickets for Gift of the Givers personnel and free delivery of the organisation’s cargo from CapeTown and Johannesburg.

The Knysna Municipality has urged Good Samaritans to continue donating via its official bank accounts.
