Atomic Heart, the illusive FPS set in an alternate reality paranormal Soviet Union, is still on the horizon and developer Mundfish continues to drip feed us new information about the title.
In lieu of any new trailers there is now a series of Q&A entries on Steam which answers certain questions the public has about the game.
Last week, in the first session of this, we learned that Atomic Heart is mostly feature complete and will have a pig that you can pet. Now for the second session of questions we can peer into the crafting system of the game.
When asked if the game would have a crafting system at all, Mundfish replied with the following:
“Yes, surely, crafting will take a special place in the game. You can and need to craft quite many things during your playthrough and you’ll have to gather resources for that. We tried to make the crafting system as consistent as possible – there are no game conventions like in arcade shooters. A certain tactical approach is required to efficiently gather resources. Simply put – the harder you hit the robots, the more they break and the less useful resources they have, but on the other hand, this does not mean that the game provokes you for full stealth. Everything is much more flexible and more complicated.”
The wording of this reply reminds us of the Soulslike game The Surge, which allowed you to target the specific limbs of enemies, robotic or otherwise. Cutting off an enemies arm which held a certain weapon, for example, would result in a higher chance of that weapon dropping for you to pick up and use.
That’s just a bit of speculation on our part so we’ll have to wait for Mundfish to reveal more in the future.
There were also a few interesting questions about the viability of stealth and how often players will be shooting enemies versus conserving ammo. It seems that stealth is an option but to finish some parts of the game engaging in combat is a necessity. As for shooting it’s advised to stay on the conservative side as deadly robots will usually investigate loud gunshots.
