Supergiant Games, the developer behind beloved games Bastion, Transistor, Pyre and Hades, has done something special for its 10th anniversary and the impressive music which has populated those titles.
The Songs of Supergiant Games: 10th Anniversary Orchestral Collection is a vinyl pressing containing new recordings of songs from these games.
“In January 2020, we traveled to the world-famous Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios in London to record this one-of-a-kind album, featuring new arrangements of songs from our first four games,” Reads an announcement for the project.
You can see a behind the scenes for these recordings on YouTube and the vinyl is available for pre-order on the Supergiant Games online store. Shipping is listed for US Autumn 2020, which is between mid-September and mid-December.
While no full songs are played in the video linked to above, we were a bit shocked to recognise parts of songs – especially from Bastion and Transistor – despite it being several years since we played each at launch. As a reminder those games came out in 2011 and 2014 respectively, so it’s a real testament to how memorable those scores are.
There are two versions of the 10th Anniversary Orchestral Collection available, both of which you can see in the gallery below.
For $34.99 (~R610) there is the standard edition on red vinyl, and then for $79.99 (~R1394) there is a limited edition on black vinyl. Both versions come with a booklet with 24 pages containing trivia and lyrics, as well as a download code for the music on Steam and Bandcamp.
The limited edition tries to justify its price by being the rarer of the two with only 1 000 available. Each of these are numbered and signed by Darren Korb, Supergiant Games’ audio director who composed all the music on these albums.
For those thinking of picking these up just keep in mind that both versions are limited to two copies per customer. There’s also a 10th anniversary poster on sale.
