With the announcement of the Crown Tundra expansion release date, there’s also been an addition to Pokémon Sword and Shield in the form of new versions of Pikachu. Here’s how to get them:

  1. “Launch your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game.
  2. Select Mystery Gift on the X menu.
  3. Select Get a Mystery Gift.
  4. Select Get with Code/Password to connect to the internet.
  5. Enter your password.
  6. Watch as the gift arrives in your game. (Pokémon will appear in your party or your Pokémon Boxes.)
  7. Be sure to save your game.”

At the time of writing two passwords have been revealed so far, each unlocking a new and unique Pikachu. These codes are: P1KACHUGET and 1CH00SEY0U.

For the latter code those are zeroes, not the letter O.

As you can see by the images on this page what makes these Pikachus special is the fact that they’re wearing Ash’s hat from the animated show. P1KACHUGET unlocks the OG and most recognisable hat from the first season, while 1CH00SEY0U unlocks the one from Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!.

We’ve nabbed both in our copy of Sword and can report that they are level 25 with a Hardy nature and the following attacks: Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Iron Tail and Electroweb.

Interestingly if you go to the details page of the Pokémon there is the following description which usually indicates where in-game you caught it. Instead it reads:

“The date was 09/28/2020, and it seems it came from a Pokemon TV program.”

While it’s great to get these unique Pokémon, especially for free, there are some caveats. Ash’s Pikachu cannot evolve into Riachu, nor can it Gigantamax. The latter cannot be achieved by way of Max Soup either, as it cannot be used with this new feature introduced in Isle of Armor.

There is also a deadline to claim the two released Pokemon so far and the remaining six which are coming soon. That deadline is 30th November 2020.

The two Pikachu appear in the Pokédex not as new Pokemon but separate forms of Pikachu. They also have unique descriptions, which you can see below.
