10 new cast members revealed for The Witcher: Blood Origin

Next week, the Netflix animated film focused on Vesemir, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf launches on the platform. Then in December the second season of The Witcher hits Netflix as well, but we’ve been incredibly curious about another Witcher production – The Witcher: Blood Origin.

This story takes place long before the events that play out in The Witcher, 1 200 years before Geralt was a twinkle in his parents’ eyes in fact. The show will be set in an elven world and will dive deeper into the creation of the Witchers and the events that lead to the Conjunction of the Spheres.

While we already knew that Laurence O’Fuarain, Sophia Brown and Michelle Yeoh would play Fjall, Éile and Scían respectively, precious little has been revealed about the series.

Today however Netflix has announced an additional 10 cast members for The Witcher: Blood Origin. They are:

  • Mirren Mack (The Nest) in the role of Merwyn
  • Lenny Henry (Lord of the Rings Series) in the role of Balor
  • Jacob Collins Levy (Young Wallander) in the role of Eredin
  • Lizzie Annis in the role of Zacaré
  • Huw Novelli (The Capture) in the role of Callan “Brother Death”
  • Francesca Mills (Harlots) in the role of Meldof
  • Amy Murray in the role of Fenrik
  • Nathaniel Curtis (It’s a Sin) in the role of Brían
  • Zach Wyatt (Karen Pirie) in the role of Syndril
  • Dylan Moran (Black Books) in the role of Uthrok One-Nut.

We are genuinely curious about the casting of Dylan Moran here although the name of the character he’s playing leads us to believe to that perhaps, Uthrok One-Nut will be the comic relief of the show much like Joey Batey does as Jaskier in The Witcher.

It also looks as if The Witcher: Blood Origin will at least introduce the Wild Hunt given Jacob Collins Levy’s casting as Eredin.

As for directors, Netflix also announced that Sarah O’Gorman would direct episodes one, four and six of the first season while Vicky Jewson will direct episodes two, three and five.

Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the series. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind, and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films will all serve as executive producers.

Unfortunately Netflix hasn’t said when we can expect The Witcher: Blood Origin, but we will be sure to share that news when we know more. Thankfully Netflix has enough Witcher content to satisfy us until we can get more.
