April O’Neil has been added to two games in one week

You know the saying: you wait ages for an April O’Neil and then two arrive at once. Okay maybe that saying is talking about buses but it doesn’t change the fact that, bizarrely, the same character has been confirmed for two games in the space of a few days.

The latest game to do this is the Super Smash Bros.-inspired Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Like the game series that inspired it this title is a ensemble cast of Nickelodeon characters both old and new.

As we discussed during its reveal in July, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl uses older characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Danny Phantom, but also brings in newer ones such as Lincoln and Lucy Loud, both from The Loud House.

CatDog from, well, CatDog, was also revealed to be a new playable character here on top of the roster announced last month.

The addition of April O’Neal here is also interesting because both Michelangelo and Leonardo were also confirmed as appearing making her the third Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character.

The version of this character in this game, as well as the next one we’ll discuss, is based on the classic look of April O’Neil with the big 80s hair and the yellow jumpsuit.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in the US Fall of this year.

The second game here is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. April O’Neil was revealed as a playable character in the opening night of Gamescom with the relevant portion of the event viewable in the embed below.

Dotemu is behind this title and brings its familiar retro look to this game. The French company specialises in reviving old licences and will be doing the same for Metal Slug in the future too.

On top of using the same era of character in these two games both April O’Neils use their microphones and cameras to attack.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is planned for release on the Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) in 2022.
