Teraco completes expansion at JB3 data centre

As the demand for cloud services grows Teraco has recently completed an expansion of its JB3 data centre facility located within its Isando Campus in Johannesburg.

Teraco says that this expansion is a strategic addition to its Platform Teraco which offers enterprises a scalable platform of IT infrastructure. Now that the expansion is complete, JB3 covers 45 000 square metres with some 12 000 square metres of data hall space. There is also 29MW of critical power load though when combined with the entire campus the critical power load totals 40MW.

“This investment also aligns with the support we pledged to the South African Government’s investment drive and our commitment to investing billions of Rands into South Africa’s digital infrastructure. As the leading interconnection hub across the continent, Teraco has over 600 clients, including key networks, cloud providers, global content, managed IT service providers, and direct access to Africa’s largest Internet exchange, NAPAfrica; within its multitude of data centres,” explained chief executive officer at Teraco, Jan Hnizdo.

As many as 200 telcos use Platform Teraco to provide connectivity to Africa. One of the reasons these telcos choose Platform Teraco, according to Hnizdo, is because of the continuous investment into digital infrastructure as well as the low latency interconnection points.

“Our clients use the data centre to scale their IT infrastructure, adopt hybrid and multi-cloud architectures and interconnect with strategic business partners within the Teraco ecosystem. Over the last year, we have seen a 48% increase in direct interconnects to public cloud on-ramps, reflecting the increasing trend of cloud adoption by enterprises,” adds Hnizdo.
