You can now order KFC on WhatsApp

Here’s something we’re going to file under “Interesting, but not sure anybody is going to actually use this”.

KFC has announced that you can now place orders on WhatsApp. Unfortunately you can’t pay for your order through WhatsApp just yet but the restaurant says that this option will be coming soon.

To place an order you will need to add the KFC Chat-Order bot to your contacts. The number you need is 087 153 1074. Open a WhatsApp chat with that contact and say Hi to get started.

This solution is available at all KFCs aside from a select few which you can find listed here.

If like us you’re wondering why KFC has launched this ordering and payment option – when it’s available – the company say that it hopes to cater to customers who might not be using solutions like Uber Eats, Bolt Food and other delivery services to avoid social contact.

“As a consumer-led organisation, we understand the limitations that high data costs can pose in transacting online. WhatsApp, with its lower data use, is the perfect channel to mitigate this,” director of digital and ecommerce at KFC South Africa, Nicholas Duminy, said in a statement.

“Connecting with, and catering to, the youth market in South Africa has always been a top priority. The KFC chat-ordering channel is a great way to do this innovatively,” adds Duminy.

While we’re on the topic of KFC, if you’re feeling adventurous you could try making KFC at home, but better. One of our favourite YouTube chefs is Joshua Weissman and he recently published a video showcasing how to make KFC much better than KFC.
