What to expect at Huawei’s Innovative Product Launch this week

  • Huawei is set to host a regional event in Dubai for the launch of a range of new devices this week.
  • On 7th May, the company will unveil new offerings at its first Innovative Product Launch of 2024.
  • Huawei Mobile South Africa has teased two new smartwatches on its social media ahead of the event.

This week, 7th May to be precise, Huawei will host its first Innovative Product Launch of 2024 at a regional event in Dubai.

While no new smartphones under the recently rechristened Pura series is expected, the company will be showcasing a range of new devices within its wearables portfolio.

The event, also happens to follow an Apple product showcase, with the Cupertino-based company rumoured to have new iPad hardware in tow.

Whether Huawei will have a device to go up against the Apple-made tablet remains to be seen, but given the fact that the company will also be debuting its Go Paint app at the same event on 7th May, the likelihood of a new tablet from the Chinese manufacturer looks probable.

There’s also mention of a new MatePad and MateBook by the Malaysian Huawei Mobile X (formerly Twitter) account, so devices to pair with the Go Paint are all but certain.

With that in mind, we thought we’d round up some of the murmurings regarding the Innovative Product Launch, and highlight what Huawei is expected to debut at the regional event in Dubai.

The first looks to be an all-new device in the form of a smartwatch, which Huawei Mobile South Africa has been teasing (featured below) on social media in recent days. It is unclear what the name of the device is, but it certainly looks like a smartwatch if the video embedded below is anything to go by. It also has an air of Apple Watch about it too, with a Red Digital Crown also viewable in the video.

While Huawei’s wearables operate on a completely different ecosystem, the company’s hardware has been a leader in the segment when it comes to battery, with some even lasting as long as two weeks in between charges. If this new smartwatch can do the same, and the pricing is right, it way prove a tempting prospect.

Sticking with smartwatches, Huawei Mobile SA’s social media has also let the cat out of the bag slightly with a new colour option for the smaller 41mm Watch GT 4 (seen in the header image above).

It’s unclear what the new colour option is called, but we’d classify it as a pale pistachio watch strap, with a silver bezel around the 41mm watch face.

At the time of writing, that’s all the hardware that Huawei Mobile SA has teased, but there will likely be more as we near the Innovative Product Launch event kicking off tomorrow eventing (7th May) at 19:00 (Dubai time).

Hypertext is currently in the United Arab Emirates metropolis and will be attending the event, so be sure to follow us on X as we share all the details about the newly announced hardware.

Huawei is also planning to reveal more from its photography division, XMAGE, this week, so we may see more of the Pura series.
