Huawei Watch 3 series has edge over others thanks to eSIM and Celia

This month Huawei has launched its latest series of wearables in South Africa – the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro.

Over the past four years, Huawei has been carefully crafting a name for itself locally with smartwatches that are feature rich and boast batteries that long outlast those of competitors.

While the same rings true of the Watch 3 series, Huawei has added some more elements to make these devices must-haves on the local wearables landscape.

Both the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro boast exceptional battery life, with the latter mustering up to the usual 14 days and the latter capable of going as long as 21 days. These numbers change slightly when the smart mode is on, but the Watch 3 series still outlast their rivals by quite some margin.

If it were a matter of battery life alone, the Watch 3 series would already prove one of the options for smartwatches in SA, but Huawei has not stopped there, bolstering the experience with the addition of an embedded SIM (eSIM) on both models and delivering a virtual assistant in the form of Celia.

With eSIM technology on offer, the Watch 3 Series can operate much like a smartphone does without being tethered to one via Bluetooth.

As such, if you’re wanting a truly smart watch experience, the Watch 3 series can offer it. This means you can not only take calls on your wrist sans phone, but also have access to several smartwatch-specific applications to further enrich your experience.

Looking more closely at Celia, this virtual assistant is accessible on your wrist thanks to the Watch 3 series running HarmonyOS – Huawei’s smart device specific operating system that is only set to grow in the coming months and years.

These devices also happen to be the first in South Africa to sport the newly developed OS, giving its wearers an experience that others are yet to try out for themselves.

Where previous Huawei watches were limited to connectivity via a smartphone, the Watch 3 series is an independent wearable free of any restrictions.

This range is therefore a unique offering on the local landscape and with pricing starting at R7 299 (RRP), you’d be hard pressed to find a better option in South Africa at the moment.

With the Watch 3 series, Huawei has taken all the elements that fans of the brand have come to know and love, and added functionality to deliver a smartwatch experience as intended.
