COVID-19 in South Africa: 15th November 2021

Last week most of the country was dealing with loadshedding before Eskom finally let up and lifted it for the weekend. The reprieve for those in Gauteng is short lived, however, as water interruptions are expected for the coming week, exacerbating COVID-19 in South Africa.

This as a lack of access to water, will make washing hands more difficult. As such, may in the province have already stockpiled water should the water interruptions extend beyond this week.

While that presents one problem, there is still the spread of the virus to consider, especially as we inch closer to the end of November when the fourth wave of infections is predicted to begin. For now, the latest numbers on COVID-19 in South Africa look relatively low.

To that end, the National Department of Health confirms that 262 cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. This low figure is likely due to it being a Sunday, but for now, things look to be in check, as the total number of infections recorded to date now sit at 2 925 939.

The department also confirms that eight fatalities have been reported too, as the death toll related to the virus reaches 89 484. Other key figures see no movement in the recovery rate from last week at 96.4 percent.

As for the vaccine rollout, 37 267 jabs were administered over the past 24 hours. As of 17:00 on 14th November, a total of 23 950 956 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 13 402 141 people inoculated at this stage.
