The numbers related to COVID-19 in South Africa have begun to pick up once again as the festive season fast approaches. Gauteng in particular is seeing an uptick in infection figures, with a fourth wave of infections predicted to surge soon.
Whether the fourth wave proves as devastating as the third did earlier in the year, remains to be seen, but either way the next few weeks will prove tough for many South Africans as interactions with friends and family will prove difficult.
It therefore places greater importance on the vaccine rollout efforts, which appears to be slowing down somewhat. To that end the past 24 hours has seen 120 311 jabs administered. As of 17:00 on 23rd November, a total of 24 874 528 vaccines have been administered, while an estimated 14 031 159 people fully vaccinated at this stage.
As for the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH), it confirms that 868 cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, as the total number of infections recorded to date has since reached 2 948 760.
The department also notes that 51 fatalities have been reported too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has climbed to 89 635. Meanwhile, the recovery rate remains at 96.3 percent, as it has done for the past few days.
