Neighbours can now raise urgent complaints with Airbnb

Residents and property owners who have issues with Airbnbs in their area can now lodge a complaint directly with the company through a special Airbnb Neighbourhood Support Line.

This support line is available in 29 countries with South Africa becoming the newest territory to boast the offering.

Through the support line neighbours will be able to lodge complaints about, well, almost everything related to Airbnb. This includes complaints about parties as well as long-term or recurring issues involving Airbnb properties in a community.

“The vast majority of Hosts and guests on Airbnb are good neighbours and respectful travellers who follow the rules. As travel returns to South Africa and we prepare for a busy summer, we want to take swift and robust action against anyone who doesn’t live up to the standards that communities expect, and the Neighbourhood Support Line will help us to crack down on the type of behaviour that isn’t welcome on Airbnb,” says regional lead for Airbnb in the Middle East and Africa, Velma Corcoran.

The firm says that. once a complaint is lodged through the support line, it will aim to have an agent get in-touch within 10 minutes.

This is yet another step Airbnb is taking to make sure that its locations aren’t a bane to those in the community. You may recall Airbnb banned parties at its listings in 2020 and it appears as if the support line is a way of enforcing those rules.

You can find the support line here but it’s important to remember that if there are emergencies or incidents that compromise safety, local authorities should be contacted.
