Some Destiny 2 Exotics are getting massive buffs, Mythoclast is getting nerfed

Destiny 2 is currently going through its quiet period where seasonal story beats have all but been tied up and many have completed their goals for Season of the Lost.

This is normal for Destiny 2 and with a 30th Anniversary event kicking off on 7th December we’re sure Bungie isn’t too worried about a lower player count for now.

Ahead of that Bungie is planning to launch a mid-Season tuning pass together with the 30th Anniversary event. The tuning pass will focus on weapons and weapon perks. What we’re excited about, however, is the tuning that is coming to Exotic weapons.

Let’s skip the fluff and dive right in. Whisper of the Worm was once the DPS king for Raid boss encounters but tuning to Sniper Rifles saw the weapons fall out of favour for that use case and now Sniper Rifles are only really seen in PvP content. With this update Whisper of the Worm will be getting a massive buff which includes:

  • Whispered Breathing (catalyst perk) now activates after 1.2s rather than 2.1s
  • White Nail now pulls two rounds from your reserves and one from thin air
  • Increased PvE damage by 10 percent

Another Sniper Rifle that has been in need of love for the longest time is D.A.R.C.I and it too will be getting some buffs and one nerf including:

  • Flinch, recoil and accuracy degradation reduced by 50 percent while Personal Assistant is active
  • Personal Assistant now has a 1s activation delay
  • Increased damage in PvE by 20 percent

Next in-line for a buff is Sleeper Simulant. This Linear Fusion Rifle, and indeed all Linear Fusion Rifles, are getting a 10 percent damage buff but Sleeper Simulant will also have its magazine increased to 4 and PvE damage will be increased by an additional 6 percent.

While we need to see these buffs in the wild, we’re expecting Sleeper, D.A.R.C.I and Whisper to become a lot more viable than they are currently.

Fighting Lion is also getting a buff although the buff is to the Thin the Herd trait on the weapon. The buffs are:

  • Removed multi-hit requirement to activate Thin the Herd. Now any damage will trigger the trait.
  • Reload speed buff for Thin the Herd increased to +70 from +50
  • Thin the Herd duration increased to 7s

The seasonal Stasis weapon from Season of the Splicer, Cryosthesia 77K is garbage and as such Bungie is reworking the weapon slightly.

  • Cryosthesia 77K will now fire on trigger press rather than release
  • Charged Shot is now a special reload and once fired the weapon won’t need to be reloaded
  • Charged Shot causes an area of effect that freezes PvE combatants and slows players. If a player is hit directly with Charged Shot it will freeze them.

The Scout Rifle Dead Man’s Tale is also getting a tuning pass but only as regards the catalyst.

  • Increased reticle friction falloff distance (no effect on mouse and keyboard).
  • Less recoil (reduced effect on mouse and keyboard).
  • Improved accuracy (reduced effect on mouse and keyboard).

Before we dive into nerfs, these weapons are receiving small buffs:

  • Arbalest – Will have intrinsic Anti-Barrier rounds
  • Suros Regime – Dual Mode Receiver now grants +30 range and +3 zoom in addition to its current effects
  • Leviathan’s Breath – Catalyst now grants Archers Tempo
  • Malfeasance – Explosion damage increased by 50 percent

Vex Mythoclast is finally being addressed

Yes, we’re well aware that Fusion Rifles are popular this season because of Particle Deconstruction but Vex Mythoclast has been a bit of a scourge in the game of late.

As such, the weapon is getting the following nerfs:

  • Aim Assist reduced by 25
  • Aim Assist Cone scalar reduced from 1.1 to 1.05 in Linear Fusion Rifle Mode
  • Three eliminations required for Full Overcharge rather than two

Next on the chopping block is Heir Apparent, or rather the catalyst and its damage resistance in PvP.

“There was a data error in the Heir Apparent catalyst resulting in it granting too much damage resistance against players,” design lead for Destiny 2, Chris Proctor, said.

As such, damage resistance against players has been reduced from 75 percent to 25 percent. No wonder this weapon was a top tier choice in competitive PvP modes.

Lorentz Driver is also getting a small nerf in that the ability energy regeneration you get when picking up the telemetry generated on a final blow has been removed.

Traveler’s Chosen is getting a similar treatment with ability energy granted per stack in PvP being set to a base 10 percent per stack. Players now also only get 2 stacks from a Guardian defeat instead of 3.
