Spider-Man in the Avengers game finally breaks radio silence

All the way back in August 2020 we learned that Spider-Man would be added to Marvel’s Avengers exclusively for PlayStation consoles, and then the topic fell off the face of the Earth… until now.

It has finally been announced, now in the middle of November 2022, that Spider-Man will be added to Marvel’s Avengers on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 come 30th November 2022.

There’s surprisingly little fanfare about the announcement with a trailer, embedded at the bottom of this story, being the main source of the reveal, uploaded to the official YouTube account for the game.

Even the video description is sparse of details reading, “‘Avengers, assemble. Bad guys, scatter!’ Peter Parker works with the Avengers to stop AIM from getting new and definitely deadly technology.”

Our first look at the suit instantly reminds us of the most recent MCU / Tom Holland interpretation of the character especially with the black detailing and the sharp sections near the torso area.

This, then, continues the trend in this game of characters looking close enough to their MCU counterparts while still being different.

In the area of costumes a big focus of Marvel’s Avengers is the ability to unlock – and buy with real money – different skins for playable characters but none were shown off in this trailer. We expect a deluge of reveals in this area leading up to 30th November.

We doubt anything in the trailer was actual gameplay but if it mirrors what’s on display here Spidey will have combat that focuses on aerobatics and quick movements much like the games from Insomniac. We doubt the same fluidity in combat and traversal will be recreated in this game but we’ll have to wait and see.

To see why we’re not too enthused by this reveal check out our launch review of Marvel’s Avengers. You can also see more positive reviews about the original Insomniac Spider-Man game and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy which succeeded in many areas that Marvel’s Avengers failed.
