Another new survival game – Icarus – is the best selling title on Steam

It wasn’t too long ago that the most popular type of game on Steam was anything that revolved around crafting and survival. This last week the phenomenon is back with the game Icarus coming in first for best selling on the platform.

This is according to third party tracking site Steam Database (SteamDB) which provides a recap for the best performing games on Valve’s store based on revenue for the week.

Despite Icarus, stylised with all caps, claiming the top spot we’d not heard of it before.

“ICARUS is a session-based PvE survival game for up to eight co-op players or solo. Explore a savage alien wilderness in the aftermath of terraforming gone wrong. Survive long enough to mine exotic matter, then return to orbit to craft more advanced tech. Meet your deadline or be left behind forever,” reads the game description.

Looking at some screenshots and videos of the game and, well, it sure does look like one of the many survival crafting games that used to flood Steam.

We’re not trying to say this title looks bad, just that nothing seems to set it apart from what we’ve seen in the past.

Those who have played it seem to have a similar reaction as the 5 999 reviews on Steam at the time of writing end with an overall Mixed rating. 57 percent of the reviews are positive with the many negative reviews pointing to the game feeling unfinished.

The rest of the top selling list can be found below:

  1. ICARUS
  2. Valve Index VR Kit Package
  3. Farming Simulator 22
  4. Cyberpunk 2077
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2
  6. Battlefield 2042
  7. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Deluxe + Bungie 30th Anniversary Bundle
  8. Halo Infinite (Campaign)
  9. Forza Horizon 5
  10. Red Dead Redemption 2

Outside of ICarus the rest of the list is not too surprising with many titles appearing here before.

Those puzzles by the resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077 by be surprised by a sudden surge of sales that has lead to new players rating the game rather highly compared to its rocky launch.

There are 28 812 recent sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and 82 percent of them are positive.

As we discussed in our launch review of the game, we had a lot of fun with the broken mess of the game and were hopeful it could be made better with more work. As we come up on a year since release maybe it’s time for a reinstall.
