The longest Starfield trailer contains very little Starfield

As we enter December 2021 we’ve still seen precious little of Starfield, Bethesda’s next game and first title in many years not based on an existing franchise. Unfortunately the latest official reveal for the game contains next to nothing about it.

Three key members of Bethesda, including everyone’s sweet little liar Todd Howard, appear in this “trailer” for the game.

“Join Game Director Todd Howard, Studio Director Angela Browder and Art Director Matt Carofano as they discuss how Bethesda Game Studios’ ambitions, passions and history have shaped the studio and how they are looking to the future with Starfield . Keep an eye out in the coming months for more episodes of ‘Into the Starfield,'” reads the description.

Despite this video being over seven minutes long little is said about Starfield at all. The three Bethesda employees simply reminisce about how many years they have been working at the company and what games they have shipped in the past.

Interestingly Howard comments on the long-lived nature of Skyrim. The game recently got yet another re-release to celebrate a decade since its introduction which was met with mostly (justified) negativity about the fact that the game has been recycled so many times over the years.

“We underestimate how long people are going to play. You look at Skyrim, we’re sitting here ten years later and it keeps having this life and it changes how you want to create something,” Howard says in the video.

Starfield is actually discussed here with the trio remarking that this new endeavour is closest to reality compared to the more fantasy natures of series like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

The few snippets of content we see from the game include segments released in shorter trailers that we’ve seen before combined with some animation of a robot and concept art (see the header image above).

There’s really so little meat on the bone here that we’re not sure why this video was released other than to remind people that Starfield is releasing in about a year’s time on 11th November 2022.

The description of the video also reminds everyone that the game will also be available only on the PC and Xbox Series X|S following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax.
