Carry1st’s Game of Thrones Jam aims to find developer talent in SA and Finland

Fresh off its $20 million series A extension, Carry1st has partnered with CrazyLabs, and Jyväskylä Game Industry Hub from Finland on the Game of Thrones Jam hackathon.

This event, taking place between 3rd to 7th February, is designed to identify top gaming talent from across South Africa and Finland, pitting teams from each country again one another as they try to develop their own hyper-casual mobile game.

“Aspiring game developers, students, graduates, and even those without any experience, can participate – the only requirement being that they are based in South Africa or Finland, and have someone on their team who can code in Unity,” explains a press release sent to Hypertext.

“All qualified hyper-casual games will be tested for cost-per-install (CPI), with promising game developers in South Africa to be offered a place on the next CrazyHubs hyper-casual gaming accelerator, and a funding plan for developing their games. Other prizes include a PlayStation Pro and an Oculus Quest 2,” it adds.

Those interested in registering and participating, which is free to do, can find more information on the Game of Thrones Jam here.

With Carry1st aiming to extend the reach of its mobile gaming in Africa, here’s hoping more events of this ilk are on the cards, especially in helping to foster more interest in game development in SA, as well as avenues for employment down the line, which is another area that needs addressing.
