Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings series has a name

With filming having wrapped in August 2021 and a release date of 2nd September 2022 touted, we found it odd that Prime Video hadn’t yet named its Lord of the Rings series. That changed on Wednesday.

The series will be called The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and it will bring together the major stories from Middle-earth’s Second Age. This includes the forging of the rings, the rise of Dark Lord Sauron and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.

“Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all,” said producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Prime Video also released a short clip announcing the title of the show. The streaming platform says that what you see isn’t CGI, but rather real molten metal being poured into hand-carved wooden ravines to shape the letters.

We’re not entirely sure what to expect with this series, but we’re glad that Prime Video and Amazon Studios are handling this show. The pair recently launched The Wheel of Time and it is a fantastic watch whether you’ve read the books the series is based on or not.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on Prime Video on 2nd September 2022. New episodes will be released weekly and the show will be available in 240 countries.
