What Is Lineage W?

Written by Vytautas Nemunaitis, SEO manager, on behalf of IPRoyal.

Launched on 4th November last year, Lineage W helped developer NCSoft Corp. quickly reclaim the lead position in the South Korean gaming market in just a couple of days.

It became the top Korean app on Google Play and the top-grossing game on Apple’s App Store. A global release in 12 countries also helped gamers around the world play together without any delays.

A Quick Review of Lineage W

The latest entry in the world-famous Lineage franchise, W is a dark fantasy MMO with a beautiful world for players to explore. This brand new adventure takes place in the Kingdom of Aden, 150 years after the original. It offers heaps of content, including terrain-altering world bosses and glorious battles on a global scale.

So, is Lineage W worth your time?

The Classes

Lineage W offers four classes (monarch, knight, mage, and elf). Each class has a different starting point, so players can experience four different beginnings with different situations in the story. It’s up to you to develop your character as you follow them on their journey, enhancing their strengths and filling in the flaws.

Monarch

This is the only class that can create a clan. The monarch starts as an average character, with no clear advantages over other classes. As you develop your monarch, you’ll gain access to new abilities and spells essential for large-scale battles.

Knight

A classic melee character with high defence and stamina, specialising in handling various weapons. Great defender in large battles, the knight is effective against elves but weak against mages due to low magic defence. This class also heavily relies on equipment and items.

Mage

With firepower higher than all other classes, mages command impressive AOE attacks. They’re great for crowd control and dealing with undead enemies. In massive battles, mages offer enemy debuff, ally support, and recovery spells. They’re weak against knights.

Elf

Elves are a great support class in PvP battles thanks to elemental magic. With bows as their primary weapon, they also use spirit magic. It’s divided into four attributes and is great for keeping enemies at a distance. Elves can also prevent enemy wizards from using magic.

Unlike previous games, Lineage W allows the players to create factions without regional restrictions where they can compete with players from any corner of the world. This global community creates a playground where different cultures can interact and enjoy the game together.

If your country is not among the ones where the game is available, you can take advantage of Lineage proxies and jump in right now!

The Story

Unlike most mobile games looking to offer nothing more than some quick fun, Lineage W features a rich story with complex situations and dilemmas. Set in a dark fantasy world, every player can develop their unique path to glory.

Each character has a rich background, and it’s up to the players to piece it together along the way.

As we know, mobile MMORPGs usually focus on dealing the most damage to an enemy. Lineage W offers a different approach with tactics and character development as the key mechanics.

Players don’t just tap the screen every now and then – they can adjust every detail for a fully immersive experience.

The Community

According to NCSoft Corp., the “W” stands for “Worldwide”. Unlike previous Lineage games, W allows players to form factions, cooperate, and compete with each other, creating a mobile battlefield never before seen in mobile gaming.

The developers aimed to create a truly global community of mobile players, and their dream came true.

The game’s chat even features automatic AI-based translation for all languages, so the players can communicate in real-time without issues. The translator can also recognise speech and instantly turn it into a text message.

That way, the players don’t get distracted in the middle of a battle and break the immersion – all they need is their voice.

The Future

While it’s currently only available in a handful of countries, Lineage W will soon expand to Europe and the Americas.

It should soon become available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Windows. While waiting, PC players can kill some time with ArcheAge, another fantastic Korean MMO.

If the game is not available in your region, this could be useful.
