PlayStation gets The Ascent next month, Steam gets new DLC now

Cyberpunk twinstick shooter The Ascent has some big news today with an upcoming port for PlayStation hardware as well as new DLC for those on PC.

Starting with the port and, on 24th March, The Ascent will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Right now pre-order links should be live on the PlayStation Store to pre-order the game with an incentive in place in the form of the RPEG 33 energy-type Rocket Launcher. This weapon has been modified with a unique laser sight that is supposed to mimic the PlayStation blue.

There’s a trailer for the PlayStation ports available here. Unfortunately, because of YouTube’s irritating rules about embedding age restricted content, we can’t simply have the video on this page, so you will have to click through.

In a bit of a strange move new DLC and NewGame+ has been announced for The Ascent but it’s only available on the PC version through Steam.

“Steam players will also be able to get their hands on the exciting new Cyber Warrior DLC pack available today, which includes 2 new weapons, 1 new tactical, 7 pieces of armour and 3 new weapon skins. The Cyber Warrior DLC Pack is available now on Steam for $4.99 / £3.99 / 4.99€,” reads a press release sent to us.

No local pricing has been provided but seeing as though Steam has regional pricing for South Africa, the price in Rands will likely be different to the above, even after conversion.

Like the port trailer there is a trailer for the Cyber Warrior that can only be watched on YouTube from here.

Maybe more exciting for those who have already played the game is NewGame+ which is now available too.

“…free for all players once they have completed their first playthrough of The Ascent, for a more challenging single player and co-op experience. Unlocking when players complete mission 12 of the base game, hardcore fans can battle tougher enemies with extra abilities and enemy projectiles that are much faster and harder to dodge. Levels are increased to 30 and up and weapons can be upgraded past Mk.10,” the press release continues.

The release of Cyber Warrior and NewGame+ only on Steam has us confused as The Ascent is also available on PC through the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass, as well as on the Xbox One and Series X|S. We’re not entirely sure why this decision was made, but hopefully this content comes to the other ports soon.
